The sale draws its strength predominately from the estate of discerning collector Cortlandt Fowler Sr. of New York. Fowler's impressive, fully-graded collection is featured in the first 201 lots. Highlights include an 1861 Liberty Head $2 ½, type 1 coin, two 1911-D Indian Head $2 ½ coins, and an 1863 Indian Princess $3 coin. An 1862 Liberty Head $10 coin, an 1861 Liberty Head $20 coin, and a 1923 Saint-Gaudens $20 coin stand out amongst the higher denomination gold pieces.
